The Jodi Arias jury was hung in the
sentencing phase. They could not unanimously decide whether to give
Jodi the death penalty or life in prison. Judge Stephens declared a
mistrial in the penalty phase. A re-trial of the penalty phase is
scheduled on July 18, 2013.
The new jury will have to accept the original 1st degree murder verdict and go through a "streamlined" version of the case to get familiar with the facts. They will only decide on the sentence of death or life, not on guilt.
If the jury is hung again, then Jodi Arias will get life in prison. The prosecutor only gets 2 shots at the penalty phase.
